Three women dead after attack on lesbians in Argentina

Three women have died in Buenos Aires after a room in a boarding house was set on fire.

Killed in the attack were Pamela Cobas, Mercedes Roxana Figueroa, and Andrea Amarante. A fourth victim remains in hospital and is expected to recover..

Local news reports confirm that the four women were in the room together, and were two couples.

Police are investigating but it appears to have been a deliberate arson attack that targeted the room where the four lesbians were staying.

A 62-year-old man who lived in the same boarding house as the women has been arrested. He is being held in police custody after being treated for a self-inflicted neck wound.

Possible motives for the attack remain unclear, but local LGBTQ community leaders are describing the incident as a hate-crime.
